Google News | Google in Significant Breach of UK Data Laws

The UK Information Commissioners Office – the ICO has ruled that there was a ‘significant breach’ of the Data Protection Act when Google collected personal data via its Street View cars. However, rather than meter out a punishment to Google the ICO will audit Google’s data protection practices. This represents a significant u-turn for ICO that originally ruled that no data breach had occurred. Well, theres certainly no one doing any U turns on this street. Yesterday I met with Harry Gotlieb Director of the Office of Film and Cultural affairs in the city of Miami. Fortunately I managed a private breakfast with him yesterday and I do have permission to shoot this video. Street view is now available in around 20 countries and allows users to walk through towns and cities. The UK is not alone with their concerns, with some people calling for the deletion of private data. Google claim that private data was collected by accident… Criticism has come from Germany and Canada.
